Overview

I was given a Brother multi-function black and white printer for free which was unknown in terms of condition.

I started by initiating a test print which completed but had issues where toner was wrongfully cured along the middle of the page.

I then dismantled the printer and inspected the rollers and found built up toner on the middle of the fuser roller.

After further dismantling I removed the roller and took apart the assembly. After taking apart the assembly I found that the temperature sensor which was positioned in the center of the assembly had a broken wire as seen in 'image 5'.

I found both replacement parts on AliExpress for a total of $30 AUD, once the replacement parts arrived I replaced them and put it all back together. Annoyingly the replacement temperature sensor came with damaged plastic as seen in one of the images, it was still useable though and the electronics are fine.

After re-assembling the printer I printed a test page with no issues. You can see in the images the faulty parts and the successful print. Unfortunately I didn't save the initial failed test printed paper.
